Even though the train to Machu Picchu goes through Urubamba valley (the sacred valley), we didn't stop there on that part of the trip. We took a bus trip to Ollantaytambo, Pisac, and the sacred valley. We visited a local family of weavers and dyers who demonstrated their crafts.
Washing the raw (dirty) wool in the root of a native plant to clean and bleach it.
Some natural dyes that come from local plants and insects.
Demonstrating weaving.
The marketplace.
We went to visit another local family. Here is another example of the things in their house: in this case a picture of Christ in a wall niche, along with the skull of an ancestor.
Guinea pigs running around the floor. These are raised like chickens for food. The local name for the animal or dish is "cuy".
Some corn hanging, and some sheep jerky.
Other sacred and/or useful items for the home.
We drove from Otovalo to Pisac, where this is another Inca ruin.
