We decided to do a road trip this year instead of flying,
to lessen the chance that we catch COVID-19 on the way and take it back to the Midwest with us.
We went to Bloomington first, and then to Newport.
Much of the route parallels the old Route 66, and there are kitschy places along the way.
Mostly, we were trying to find places that had patio seating to lessen our exposure.
On the way out, we stopped at Albuquerque and Oklahoma City.
In OKC, we had the best baby back ribs ever at the Clark Crew BBQ.
They were so meaty, we couldn't even finish a rack between the two of us.
At Mom's house, she had found some old pictures of Frank...
...and Stan...
...and Edna, so I made copies and added them to the site.
We played pickleball at the new courts in Bloomington.
When we came back that morning, Mom had gone out and gotten a cake for Colton's birthday.
Unfortunately, since she always calls Stan "Frank", she thinks Colton must be "Stan".
Posed pictures of Mom and Colton.
Here's Stan and Mom and Colton...
...and let's add Kimberly for good measure.
The slightly-mislabeled birthday cake.
Make a wish...
Kimberly looks so tall next to her mother...
...and Wade looks gigantic next to them all.
On the way back, we stopped at Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Albuquerque.
In Albuquerque, Kimberly found a great noodle house.
We split the house special noodles with pork and garlic sauce, with some scallion pancakes.
We also got some steamed dumplings. Everything there was delicious.
