Day 5 -- Travel to Vienna, and welcome dinner in Vienna.
All of the buildings have these markers on them. They are some kind of diagram for water pressure and
access.
We are off to Vienna, but to keep the day interesting, we stop at a little town called Szentendre.
It's basically just a few streets, mainly restored to be a quaint tourist trap.
Our tour guide Alex explaining the lay of the land.
Walking around the area, here's Kimberly being sacriligious.
I wonder if they have the licenses to use these Disney characters. They might, because we cannot
read a single other word on the sign.
Wade with his buddy Pope John Paul II.
There was many art museums (pronounced "shops") in the town. This one makes sculptures from natural
ingredients, like these stick men.
Still on the Danube. Kimberly is standing on part of the levee system.
"I'm Singin' in the Rain", since Wade just did that number in the choir show.
Lunch stop at this little hotel. We ate outside in the covered area.
We made another stop at another St. Stephen's Basilica on the way, to stretch our legs, and to
walk another five or six stories of stairs.
There was a long staircase up the left of this picture. We only found out later that we could have
gone inside and used the lift.
A view from the front.
I always take a picture of the signs, so we can remember where we were.
On the back side across the river is Slovakia.
We arrive at our welcome dinner in Vienna at the Salm Brau.
You cannot call something Wienerschnitzel unless it is main with veal. Since this is made with
chicken, it is chicken "in the Vienna style".
A quick driving tour on the way to our hotel.
This is the main government building, but it is under renovation.
The sun is just going down as we arrive.
Our hotel is called "Roomz", and is supposed to be of ultra-modern design. That means that it lacks
any of the normal European charm you would expect.
It also means that the rooms are small and sparse. Wade is standing in area 1, inside the door, and
with the closet and commode. Area 2 is the sink and shower, and area 3 is the bed where Kimberly is
standing. Everyone on the tour lambasted this hotel in the ratings.
Alex managing the tour with typical German efficiency.
