Day 9: Food walking tour in Montreal, farewell dinner.
Our final day includes a food walking tour of Montreal with our guide, Donovan. We are in a converted bank, and he is showing the ornateness of the elevator doors.
This converted bank that is now a bagel and coffee shop, and has rental workspaces available.
Evidently Montreal is known for bagels, and we have one with cream cheese, smoked salmon, dill, capers, and pickled onion. The table we are eating from is the check-writing table, and is probably 500 pounds of brass.
Off to Le Beau Marche, a high-end local market.
We sample some smoked meat (sort of between corned beef and pastrami) on a cracker, and a couple of cheese samples.
Walking through the city, we see Notre Dame again.
Here is a delightful statue called Les chuchoteuses ("The Gossipers") by Belanger.
Kimberly entering Nelli, ...
...where we are treated to poutine (french fries, cheeses curds, and gravy).
A group picture around the table at Nelli.
Then on to a taco place called La Catrina (a figure from Dia de los Muertos).
We are treated to a taco made of nopales, mushrooms, cauliflower, and onions, and it is quite delicious.
Our final course is at a Vietnamese ice cream shop called Ca Lem.
The ice cream is made with taro, which gives it that purple hue, and lactose-free milk, so anyone can eat it.
That evening we have our farewell dinner at the Vieux-Port Steakhouse; this is the vieux from our table.
