We approach the
city wall in Xi'An, the last full remaining city wall. We are greeted on
the way in by this enthusiastic drum and whistle corps.
A short orientation at one gate in the wall.
The building on the left is the drawbridge controls. The building in
the background on the right is the right-hand tower of the Howard Johnson
Plaza Hotel, which is where we stayed.
Some of our girls on the wall.
Kimberly raising the drawbridge to save the city from the attacking armies.
These soldiers put on a exhibition for a half-hour.
You can either watch the exhibition...
...or go up on the city wall proper...
...and rent bicycles.
Ready to ride.
Hans posing, and a shot of the Ming-style roofs in the background.
No day is complete without a shopping stop, and today's is the lacquer
furniture factory, where Darrolyn makes her large purchase of the trip
(her small purchases are too numerous to count).
That night, we blew off the Chinese food and snuck off to the High Fly
Pizza parlor. We ate our pizza on this little patio, and it was delicious.
And then we fly off to Chengdu. Even China is getting politically correct
about smoking. This was in the airport smoking lounge, where Hans and
Kimberly could often be found.
