Day 4: Sightseeing in Bordeaux, dinner at Arcada.

We start the day with some tram and walking sightseeing in Bordeax, including the Monument aux Girondins.
Some of the people elect to shop instead, so we agree to meet back at this Jaume Plensa sculpture at a certain time.
This is the main opera hall.
The Bordeaux parliament building and the large square in front of it.
Kimberly having a sit-down while Maarten explains the history of this church.
Here's our tour guide Maarten describing this quaint castle.
Seeing the 16th century additions on top of the 13th century additions on top of...
The Bordeaux cathedral...
...and its separate Pey-Beland bell tower.
Walking around to the front of the cathedral.
A view of the inside.
We stop for lunch at Casa Gata.
Then on to the Musée du Vin et du Négoce for a class on Bordeaux wines.
The museum is an old wine merchant's shop and vaults as shown in this diagram.
It is full of these barrel vaults where they used to store the wines.
We sit down for our lecture and tastings.
The placemats have a guide to the major appelations in the Bordeaux area.
Dinner is on our own that night, and Kimberly has made us a reservation at Arcada.
Kimberly starts with the soft-boiled egg, cream of red lentils, rapini, and bear's garlic gel.
Wade starts with artichoke poivrade in barigoule, arugula, roasted hazelnuts, and smoked haddock.
We shared this main course of piglet shoulder confite in port...
...and this main course of duck breast with pistachio baba ganoush and candied fennel.
We shared this cheese course for dessert, and then headed out for gelato.
The carte with our options.
