Day 5: Château George 7, St. Emilion, Château Cardinal-Villemaurine.
We go out on the bus today, and start at Château George 7.
It is a small, one-woman-owned winery that is the later-life project of Sally, who shares with us
her amazing story of taking this on.
She shows us the collection of equipment in use.
We sit down for a lovely lunch in the tasting room.
She gives us different pours with different years or production methods to try.
The view from the patio over the vineyards.
Lunch is this amazing plate of cheeses, meats, vegetables, and dips that were made in-house.
After lunch, we head to the appelation and city of St. Emilion.
We have a walking tour of the city...
...and its quaint streets and neighborhoods.
Wade with the monolithic church in the background.
Touring through the church.
You can't take pictures on the inside, but it is a monolithic church in that it is completely carved
out of the mountainside (one rock).
Wade and Kimberly have been day drinking again.
The cloisters in another small church.
We move on to Château Cardinal-Villemaurine, another winery.
We had a small group of 13 plus Maarten; this is our van driven by Boris.
Another tasting of four of their wines.
The younger son gives us a tour of some of the vineyards.
These little balls are not grapes; they are the flowers that will open up and have bunches in them.
In the cellars underneath, we see and smell the aging.
A previous vintage aging in the bottle.
And on to our tasting.
