Day 8: Rocamadour, Le Belvèdére, Auberge le Mirandol.
Today we visit the beautiful town of Rocamadour. Maarten explains how we are starting at the top
and making our way down, the opposite way that the pilgrims would be coming.
We start making our way down a set of switchbacks from the top.
Here is a chapel area that has been carved out of the hillside.
The path has the stations of the cross for the pilgrims to pray at.
It is set in this beautiful quiet forest area.
At one switchback, we can look down onto the rooftops of the hillside town.
Kimberly in front of the main gates.
In the main courtyard, attached to which are several chapels and worship areas.
The chapel of the "Black Madonna".
Another worship area right next to that.
Down we go toward the main town.
This little train runs through town to transport people to the parking area.
We stop for a coke at this outside cafe with the perfect canopy.
Walking toward the bus, Kimberly finds her totems.
Lunch is right across the valley at Le Belvèdére.
The restaurant terrace has views back onto Rocamadour.
Wade and Kimberly and Rocamadour.
The afternoon has an optional visit to the Gardens of Marqueyssac, but we opt to have a break time.
That evening, Kimberly has made us a reservation at Auberge de Mirandol.
We start with a little salad, as neither of us has gotten enough roughage this trip.
The main thing we came for: the cassoulet. Incredibly rich and delicious.
Kimberly with wine cheeks.
Happy 25th Wedding Anniversary!
Wade's dessert: a walnut cake with ice cream.
Kimberly's dessert: apple tart with ice cream.
Just a quick shot to show the atmosphere of the place.
