Day 9: Lascaux Caves, La Roque-Gageac, La Petite Tonnelle.

It is Wednesday, and market day in Sarlat, so we sleep in and stroll around the city.
Here's something we don't have: a condom vending machine on the main street.
Our special visit today is Lascaux IV. Lascaux I is the original cave, now closed off for protection. II is the original reproduction, and III is the traveling exhibit.
The gift shop.
Walking down toward the reproduction. It was really well done, but photography is not allowed inside, so there is nothing here to see.
Heading to another award-winning beautiful town: La Roque-Gegeac.
Kimberly and Maarten posing for a photo.
The real main street is here on the protected rock face...
...not the tourist street below.
The foreground was another house, until a huge boulder took it out, and cleared the way for what is now a terrace cafe below.
Maarten showing how the structure is a combination of stone stacked up, and stone dug away into the cliffside.
Another view showing the overhangs that were used by primitive man, then turned into small dwellings, then eventually turned into a town.
Our dinner tonight is at La Petite Tonnelle.
Wade starts with a porcini and walnut flan with smoked duck.
Kimberly starts with a poached egg with mushrooms and truffle.
We both get a duck leg confit for the main.
Wade is a sucker for chocolate with this lava cake a la mode.
Kimberly prefers the lemon meringue tart.
