Day 3 -- Old Delhi, Jama Masjid, rickshaw ride, Gandhi, Salimghar Fort
After a few hours sleep, we start a bus tour around Old Delhi. It's Sunday, so people are out in the park playing cricket.
Also, the bazaar is in full swing.
It is almost completely men selling and buying.
The first sightseeing stop is Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, dating to the mid-1600's.
It is a sacred place, so the women have to wear a special covering...
...and the men in shorts have to wear something to cover their bare legs.
It is an open mosque, and this the main plaza where everyone would pray.
Toward the main area of the mosque...
...and a view of the royalty box across from it.
Entering the main covered mosque area...
...and inside where the prayers are led from.
The steps are for the main person to speak from.
Next we take a bicycle rickshaw ride around Old Delhi.
Amazing how anything can keep electricity running.
We pass a Sikh Temple on the way.
Our driver, and the buggies in front of us. Fortunately, traffic is "light" on Sunday.

A short video on the ride.
Lunch is arranged for us. We have the Indian version of tapas: various appetizers and small bites.
After lunch, we go to the Gandhi memorial.
We travel down a main thoroughfare...
...to this sidewalk. You can go through the arch to the memorial itself, or up the ramp for a broad view.
Here is the view from the top of the ramp with a walkway all around. The memorial includes an eternal flame.
After the memorial, we go to a small museum dedicated to Gandhi, including this statue.
Here is why Kimberly and Wade cannot be saints like Gandhi. This is one of the ashram practices.
A quiet chapel that includes the robe Ghandi was wearing when shot, complete with blood stain, plus the bullet removed from him.
Gandhi was a feminist and preached tolerance decades before it was fashionable.
Some local wildlife out in the yard.
A modern statue symbolizing Gandhi's march to the sea.
Our final sightseeing for the day is the Salimghar Fort.
It is mainly red sandstone like many of the forts.
Our tour guide, Raj.
Some beautiful work on an archway. Sorry that the detail does not translate well at this size.
