Day 8 -- Hindu temple, Jaipur, City Palace
The next day, we are supposed to go to a local school, but the government has declared a school holiday.
Instead, we pass this Hindu temple that is open, and Raj turns the bus around for us to check it out.
This is them washing the image of Shiva with milk and ghee.
On the other side, locals are praying to the effigies on the dais. Occasionally, someone rings the bell (ghanta) to welcome the gods and remove evil.
The camels seem to generally get the heavier loads such as stone, but this one has it easy.
When two people from different villages are engaged, they notify the village by painting the house and putting up the wedding information on the side. This is from a wedding in 2005.
The guide trades to get a couple of the small local cigarettes (called "beedi") for people to try.
A large scale in the drive of some business.
Driving around, we see this status of Hanuman, the monkey god...

The Islamic architecture is again evident...

The peacock gate; the pictures can't do it justice.
One of the main palaces.
Some cannons outside the weapons museum...
...and inside, arrays of variouis weaponry from swords to early guns.

Going to the bazaar to shop; we were mainly in an area for clothes and textiles.
We stop to take a short break, and here comes a wedding procession down a side street.
