We have a tour set up for the day, including Pompeii and Herculaneum
(Ercolano). Our tour bus makes several stops in Naples to pick up the
various passengers. Here is a shot out over the harbor...
...and, yes, the cruise ships are here, so it's good we are heading out
early to beat the crowds.

Our tour guide describing the history of Pompeii.
It's October, but it's plenty warm still.
The excavated theater.
The major streets have these "crosswalks". This allows the
chariots to pass down the streets and straddle these stones, but people
can walk across and keep their feet out of the sewage and horse manure.
A fast food joint, where beverages and/or soups would be ladeled out
of these bowls.
The entrance area to the public baths.
A plaster cast of a victim of Vesuvius. The people were covered and killed
instantly, and then their bodies decayed in their ashen tombs. Archeologists
found that they could inject plaster into the holes left by the bodies
and get very detailed molds of the instant of death.
In the public baths.
The crowds are starting to arrive from the cruise ships.
Here on the wall of the main brothel are pictures of the various sex
acts that you can request. This allows the illiterate, and the visiting
sailors who speak other languages, to point at what they want.
Look at this comfortable brothel room, with a stone bed and "pillow".
Who knew there were this many different sex acts?
