Day Two included a multi-course lunch at the Bouley Test Kitchen, the SpyScape spy museum, and Beautiful,
the Carole King musical.
We have reservations for a multi-course lunch at the Bouley Test Kitchen. A great value for lunch,
and you get to try lots of tasty things.
We opted to sit at the counter to watch the chefs in action.
Our menu for today.
We couldn't find our silverware at first, because it is in a hidden drawer under the counter. Our first
amuse bouche is a cucumber and avocado mixture with foam-like textures.
An amuse bouche of caviar in a cheese sauce on a kudzu cracker. Some house-made pumpernickel and garlic breads
in the upper left.
Oysters with Meyer lemon cloud and trout roe.
Porcini flan (in the bottom of the bowl) with Dungeness crab and black truffle dashi. One of the best
courses of the meal, it was wonderfully earthy.
Another amuse bouche. We were watching the chef make these for other people, and we were sad that it
didn't seem to be on our menu, but then they brought some for us. It is comte cheese with a white
asparagus strip on top, with morel mushrooms and some more grated cheese on top.
Kimberly ordered the black truffle ravioli. Yum, yum.
Wade ordered the duck, served with wild rice and polenta. It made a good combination to share a bit to
Kimberly in trade for a ravioli.
A lovely palate cleanser of pineapple granite with ten exotic fruit sorbet and Amaretto ice cream.
Kimberly ordered the chocolate frivolous (lava cake) with coffee gelato.
Wade ordered the walnut cake, but substituted the coffee gelato instead of the grape sorbet.
Now, on a lark we spent a couple of hours in the afternoon at SpyScape, an interactive spy museum. Here
is us going up the elevator to the exhibit area. The "briefing" was projected on the walls as we went up.
The museum was well-designed and had interactive areas as well as exhibits of famous spies. It covered
encryption, lie detection, personality profiling, pattern recognition, etc. Here is the display of someone
in the room where you try to avoid the lasers while touching as many of the targets as possible.
Kimberlyi at one of the interactive stations, taking a test. It's no surprise that Kimberly was pegged
as an Agent Handler, and Wade as an Intelligence Analyst.
Kimberly cooling herself off at the diner where we split a pastrami Reuben before the show.
The opening set of Beautiful, the Carole King story.
