Day 8: travel to Mexico City, boat trip to the chinampas.

Along the road, we see another view of Popo and the other volcano.
We arrive at the embarcadero where the boats are launched.
Wade waiting for everyone to use the bathroom.
Kimberly with the boat named "Amor y Control".
On the boat, we get a snack of chips and salsa, popcorn, and hibiscus water.
The boats are punted along the waterways manually.
There are tons of birds that migrate to this area.
Some typical ducks.
We had some birders on our boat that could tell what species of bird this was.
Our guide helps people take over and preserve this style of farming on the chinampas.
One man's farm.
It's all done by hand, as with this man planting seedlings.
He keeps a variety of plants in case one crop has issues.
Here's some fresh broccoli in the field.
Continuing on to our next destination, past more Day of the Dead decorations.
More birds we don't know the names of.
Our birders were very excited at the variety.
We go down this "side street" to our guide's own farm.
He runs events there for chefs and other parties.
The cooking area, all wood and all-natural of course.
We sit at these tables, after the chairs are brought from the boats.
Look! Tacos again!
These were really very good, and the jicama and cucumbers were so fresh.
Another view of his covered garden area.
That night, we had a stew with a sort-of-mole sauce and a beef short rib.
Kimberly's dessert was cheese, quince paste, and an anise-flavored puff pastry. Wade always wants some form of chocolate for dessert.
The restaurant is called El Bajillo, and is in Santa Ana's house. We explore that house, and this is a shot down into the dining area.
